Privacy policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Knucklebop is a Mac app made by Aayush Kedawat, an individual developer based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India (“we”). This policy explains what the app and this website do with information. The short version: your taps stay on your Mac.
Motion sensor data
Knucklebop reads your MacBook's motion sensor to recognise taps. This data is processed in memory on your Mac and is never sent anywhere. The app keeps a short log of recent detections (time, strength, whether a rule ran) on your Mac to power Test mode and diagnostics.
Websites and apps
To apply rules per app, Knucklebop checks which app is in front. For website rules it asks your browser for the current tab's address only when a tap pattern finishes, reduces it to the domain (for example, meet.google.com) immediately, and does not store, log or send the full address.
What leaves your Mac
- Licence checks. When you activate, the app sends your licence key and a name for this Mac (the start of an anonymous device identifier) to our payment provider, Dodo Payments. About once a day after, while you're online, it sends the key and the activation ID Dodo Payments issued, to confirm the licence is still valid. The device identifier is a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID combined with an app-specific value; it cannot be turned back into the hardware ID. Dodo Payments' privacy policy applies to that data and to your purchase.
- Update checks. The app downloads an update feed from knucklebop.com. Like any web request this reveals your IP address and app version to our web host (Google Firebase Hosting); we don't use it to identify you.
There is no analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking in the app. (The website is different: see below.)
This website
knucklebop.com is a static site hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. Like any web server, it records technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages requested, which Google uses to run and secure the service. If you allow it in the banner, the site also uses Google Analytics to count visits and see how people find us (for example, which site linked here, your approximate country, device type, and whether you clicked Download or Buy). Google Analytics sets cookies and Google processes this data on our behalf; we've turned off advertising features and Google signals. Nothing loads unless you click “Allow”, and you can change your mind any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of each page. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage. Otherwise the site sets no cookies. When you buy, you check out on Dodo Payments' site, under their privacy policy.
Diagnostics you choose to send
If you click “Send diagnostics”, the app writes a file and opens an email to us with it attached. Nothing is sent unless you send that email. The file contains your Mac model, macOS version, app version, sensor and detection settings, permission states, licence status (not the key) and recent detections. It contains no website addresses, no keystrokes and no personal data.
Purchases
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record and processes payment details; we receive your name, email address and order details to provide support and licences.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it: email support@knucklebop.com. We'll reply within 30 days. Aayush Kedawat is responsible for this data (the “data controller” or “data fiduciary”) and is also the contact for complaints. We keep purchase records as long as tax law requires, and support emails only as long as needed to help you. Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the EU or UK GDPR, or California law), you may also have the right to object, to receive a copy of your data, or to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and describe the change in the app's release notes.
